General surgeon Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky of Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital in Miramar Beach, Florida, was sued for the death of a patient, William Bryan, who had his liver accidentally removed during surgery.
When William Bryan, 70, started having health issues, he and his wife Beverly, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, were in Florida. Bryan apparently went to Dr. Shaknovsky’s Miramar Beach facility because he was experiencing left side abdominal pain.
Following a battery of testing, his spleen was found to be malfunctioning, and a surgery date was set. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan were convinced to have the operation at Ascension Sacred Heart by chief medical officer Dr. Christopher Bacani and general surgeon Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky, despite their objections, according to their attorneys.
Everything went horribly incorrect on August 21, 2024, the day of the splenectomy. For anything purpose, William Bryan’s liver was removed by using Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky instead of his spleen, which changed into a grave blunders. He lost so much blood as a result that he exceeded away on the operation desk.
Following the procedure, Dr. Shaknovsky called the liver the “spleen” and told Mrs. Bryan that her husband’s anomaly had brought about the spleen to swell four times its original length and move to the opposite aspect of his frame.
But after more investigation, it was discovered that Mr. Bryan’s spleen was still whole but had a tiny cyst on the surface. The fact that his liver had been removed was also verified. As a result, Mrs. Bryan engaged Joe Zarzaur of Zarzaur Law, PA to represent her husband in court. Dr. Shaknovsky, Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital, and other defendants are the targets of a lawsuit brought by Zarzaur Law.
