In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Google paid tribute to Cuban-American silent cinema actor and activist Emerson Romero on September 19, 2024.
Emerson Irving Romero, who was born on August 19, 1900, became well-known as an actor during the silent film era and was instrumental in getting movies adapted for hard-of-hearing audiences.
He intervened in 1927 whilst sound movies, or Talkies, were the new large component. In order to make movies extra accessible to all, which include the ones who have hearing impairments, he pushed for the inclusion of subtitles in movies.
Now that Google has recognized him, his achievements and efforts are receiving international attention, piqueing people’s interest.
Rod and Dorene were the two children Emerson Romero loved and cared for!
Emerson Romero’s membership allowed him to meet and eventually fall in love with his wife, Emma “Connie” Corneliussen, in 1936. A year later, they were married.
The couple first made their home in the Queens communities of Woodside and Woodhaven, but eventually made their way to 29 Cedar Avenue in Farmingdale.
Rod is the son of Emerson Romero and Emma his wife, while Dorene is their daughter. Emerson’s children had normal hearing because his hearing issue was not inherited.
Emerson was quite supportive of Rod and Dorene’s decision to pursue an academic career rather than engage in the entertainment industry, in contrast to their parents.
Rod completed his electrical engineering master’s degree at the esteemed Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Similarly, Dorene graduated from Paris’s esteemed Sorbonne.
Emerson Romero went to Boulder, Colorado, in his later years of retirement in order to be near his children, who had moved there with their respective families.
Emerson Romero passed away on October 16, 1972, leaving behind a charitable legacy.
